Capo d'Orso is so named because of the imposing bear-shaped rock carved by the winds. It is worth a visit for the panoramic road that winds along the cliffs overlooking the sea. The granite bear stands atop a 120m high hill, and is visible from the sea. This natural sculpture has fascinated navigators since ancient times, as the Greek Ptolemy already mentioned it in his works. In theOdyssey, Homer also mentions the Artacia, the Bear Fountain, from which the Lestrigoni, the cruel giants who devoured part of Odysseus' crew, drew water.
