Porto Cervo is, like Porto Rotondo, the resort of the international jet set and multi-millionaires. Nearly half of the infrastructure belongs to the wealthy Aga Khan, who built the resort in the 1960s. At the time, he was able to purchase 30,000 hectares of land for $25,000. The port displays sumptuous yachts and sailboats. In the city, luxury residences and boutiques, real estate agencies and restaurants follow one another. The Stella Maris church catches the visitor's eye with its brilliant whiteness and surreal silhouette. Around the port, the numerous private residences leave little room for public beaches. The hotels compete in luxury and splendor.
