Croydon, today with a population of 350 souls, had 7 000 inhabitants in 1887 and no fewer than 19 hotels. The discovery of gold made it the fourth largest city in Queensland. The police reports and the court testify to a period of the most turbulent. Today one hotel has survived the closure of mines: Croydon Club Hotel. However, many other buildings on the main street bear witness to this exciting period. During your visit, refresh yourself at Belmore Lake, famous for barramundi fishing.
