Mount Barker, the largest town in the Adelaide Hills, is home to almost 42,000 inhabitants. It lies 33 kilometers from Adelaide. There are many restaurants, stores, a shopping mall, a cinema and a well-known golf course. Beyond that, the town is a little remote from the hills and lacks the charm of Stirling or Hahndorf. In recent years, however, a growing number of locals have come to live here, contributing to the town's dynamism. It takes its name, of course, from the eponymous summit of Mount Barker, at the foot of which it nestles.
