Gemtree is located 140 km northeast of Alice, on the Plenty Highway. It's a tranquil spot, best known for its gemstones, which tourists come to enjoy searching for. Tours can be arranged from Alice Springs, with the Gemtree Fossicking Tours, which include travel, site visit and prospecting equipment. Many grey nomads go to Gem Tree, where there's often a friendly, festive atmosphere, with campfires, children's playgrounds and hiking trails.
