This was the Port Misery of the first migrants and up to the beginning of the 20th century; port wastelands are gradually giving way to building renovations. Visitors come here to stroll along the harbour quays, where the hull of the clipper ship City of Adelaide, built in 1864, is currently being restored. The waters of the Port River were officially declared a Dolphin Sanctuary in 2005. Port Adelaide is also characterized by its museums. On Sundays, you should visit the Fishermen's Wharf Sunday Market, a huge and surprisingly friendly bric-a-brac market. A visit to Port Adelaide is often followed by a trip to Semaphore and its beaches.
