Nicknamed "Taiwan's Gateway", the Taoyuan district is better known for its international airport than for its tourist attractions. However, located only 50 km from the capital, it can be a good weekend getaway, especially around the Shihmen Reservoir when the peach trees are in bloom in the spring. By the way, Taoyuan means peach garden. The old streets of Daxi are also worth a visit. Note that it is in the region that most of the immigrant workers, from Vietnam, the Philippines or Indonesia, have taken up residence, to work in the factories of the region, offering the interesting face of a more multicultural society than in the rest of the island
