The small white houses of Cinco Ribeira are typical of the emigrants from the Algarve. The village offers two interesting sites: an eco-museum at the entrance of the village (it is in fact a picturesque house) and a cheese factory. Cinco Ribeiras is a rather quiet and rural parish. Until 1990, the official name of the parish was Nossa Senhora do Pilar, a name that came from the primitive chapel built by the Jesuits in the 17th century. The toponym Cinco Ribeiras derives from its main nucleus, which is located around Ribeira das Cinco, that is, five streams after the western exit of the city of Angra. Simply!
