This small village, which has grown to over 2,000 inhabitants, is concentrated around the church of Saint-Léonard, who was adopted as patron saint in 1592. Once very popular, he was believed to protect those who fell into the hands of pirates. Pirates frequently boarded the Maltese coast to capture future slaves. In Triq Valetta, at an intersection to the north of the village, stands a small vestige of Maltese prehistory. A three-metre-high menhir, found nearby, stands here. In the past, crosses were planted atop menhirs to Christianize these pagan monuments.
