Drowned in the tropical vegetation, Pétrin is not so much a hamlet as the main entry point and reception office of the Black River Gorges National Park, the largest nature reserve in Mauritius. Covering an area of 6,574 hectares, it is home to more than 300 species of plants and 9 species of endemic birds such as the Pigeon des Mares, the Grosse Cateau Verte or the Kestrel. The reserve can be discovered mainly on foot, with a guide or independently on marked paths of varying difficulty and length. Two viewpoints on the road linking Pétrin to Chamarel also allow you to appreciate the topology of the gorges.
