The name, "the country house", is in stark contrast to the reality of a peaceful building, for here everything is oversized. The hotel complex occupies a 3,000-hectare area on the edge of the Caribbean Sea. The hotel, designed by American architect William Cox, was inaugurated in April 1974. Thousands of tourists are here, a little isolated from the rest of the world, but the area has its own streets and shops, so there's no need to go out to spend money. The resort is reached via La Romana airport, so you can come to the Dominican Republic without seeing anything of the country. Entrance to the complex is reserved for the hotel's wealthy guests.
