Saint-Philippe is composed of several towns lined up along the N2, its highlands are covered by vast forests. The commune covers half of the Fournaise massif and marks the entrance to the volcano territory. This part of the coast offers beautiful walks and the charm of the wild south where the abundant vegetation that covers the slopes, emerges from the darkness of the volcanic rocks. The area is well worth spending at least one night in. This is the land of the vacoa, which can be found on the markets in baskets and woven hats. The cabbages are used in cooking and offered on the menu of the restaurants, just like the palm tree.
