First town above the Tamarins road, the district of Piton Saint-Leu is so large that it could become a commune in its own right. But you have to go up again, much higher than the Route des Tamarins, to reach the Fontaine Saint-Leu, the Chaloupe Saint-Leu, the Colimaçons... From these villages, apart from the breathtaking panorama over a good part of the island which will disappear as the altitude rises and the clouds accumulate, the view also takes in the Route des Tamarins, in its most spectacular part. The colossal engineering structures crossing the deep ravines of Saint-Leu are now part of the landscape.
