The vast plateau of the Plaine des Cafres is bounded by two valleys: the Bras de la Plaine to the northwest and the Rivière des Remparts to the east. It culminates at 1,600 m, at the Bellevue Pass. The Plaine des Cafres, as its name suggests, was for a long time the refuge of chestnuts. The site is a good base to pack your bags and gravitate on the surrounding circuits. From the village of Bois-Court, you can hike on Grand-Bassin; by car, beautiful viewpoints on the rivers are within easy reach, and the Volcano road is nearby. Gîtes and B&Bs are numerous, offering a majestic view of the south coast or a thick curtain of mist.
