Capital of the South with nearly 80,000 inhabitants, Saint-Pierre is a city where life is good, far from the urban atmosphere of Saint-Denis. A city that is active during the day, especially in the Bons-Enfants shopping street, and lively in the evening, to the rhythm of the many cafés and discos on the seafront. Integrated into the life of the town, the marina is a popular destination for walkers. The fishermen's port is located on the outskirts of the town, on the road to Saint-Joseph, in Terre-Sainte, a charming little village where you want to stay. And then there is the beach, right in the town centre, supervised and lined with gardens that attract families for traditional picnics, while children have fun in the water games set up there. The chequered city is one of the estates that, during the colonial period, were granted in forty plots. It stretches northwards, on the hillside, going up towards Le Tampon. Its streets, very commercial, go up and down quite dry. There is a friendly and dynamic atmosphere, punctuated by the calls to prayer of the muezzin or by the Tamil drums. The old houses, made of wood or lava stone, sleep in rue Archambaud and rue Marius-et-Ary-Leblond. Place de la Mairie, the town hall (1767) with its white façade, a former wheat and then coffee warehouse, takes us back to the Compagnie des Indes. In the garden of the Place de la Mairie, one can see the hairy De Boucher and the bust of François de Mahy, a politician born in 1830, deputy and several times minister.
