Two cities of the same name, one in Savoie, the other in Isère, separated in 1376 by a bridge marked the boundary between the Duchy of Piedmont-Sardinia and the Dauphiné (France). Pont Bridge has grown its commercial expansion of this most important toll point of the states of Savoy, passage to Piedmont-Sardinia. The church of the Carmelites in Savoy (classified paintings) also marks this separation: the inhabitants of Savoy had to borrow the wooden bridge, pay the toll to go to offices on the other bank until they got their own parish. Pont-de-Beauvoision is the capital of the furniture. From the Middle Ages, wood descended from the beautiful nearby forests and Chartreuse, the driving force of water fed sawmills. In the Renaissance, during the Italian wars led by François I, carpenters in Italian furniture or bûchiers accentuèrent the know-how. The cabinetmaking developed and reached his nobility until the beginning of the th century. Furniture fairs continue, exposing the production of local artisans. It is noted that the region is still famous thanks to Mandrel, by smuggler against the general Farmers and precursor of the French Revolution, which trafiquait between the duchy of Piedmont Sardinia and France from then through the region.
