On the borders of Isère and Savoie, Le Pont-de-Beauvoisin, the city of furniture, has always had an important place on the road to Italy on a commercial and strategic level. Its particularity lies in the fact that the city is adjacent to its Savoyard counterpart Le Pont-de-Beauvoisin from which it is separated by the Guiers. Le Pont-de-Beauvoisin was split into two separate municipalities in 1376. Some old houses overlooking the Guiers escaped the destruction of the bridge in 1940. In the centre, the buildings date from the 18th century, when the town was marked by the smuggling activities of the famous Mandrin.
