Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse is located in the heart of the Chartreuse massif, today crossed by the road that leads to the Cucheron pass in the north and the Porte pass in the south. It is a real climatic resort. With its 884 inhabitants, Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse is a very large commune (8,012 ha). Indeed, there are two churches, Saint-Pierre-de-Chartreuse-Village and Saint-Hugues. It is on the territory of the commune that Saint Bruno and his companions built the first monastery of the Carthusian order in the 11th century. It is also here that the precious elixir known all over the world began to flow from the stills. An authentic mountain village, at an altitude of about 900 m, it is also the best equipped ski resort in the whole massif. In addition to downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowshoeing and paragliding can be practiced. In summer, hiking enthusiasts will be delighted by the wide variety of trails throughout the park: no less than 1,000 km.
