From the death of Charles II the Bald, King of France, in 877, to the construction of the Marie-Thérèse Redoubt, one of the forts of the Esseillon barrier, via the church of Saint-Thomas Becket, Avrieux's historical and heritage past is rich. More recently, the installation of the experimental wind tunnel of the Office national d'études et de recherches aérospatiales (ONERA), created at the end of the Second World War, has been added.
