Bardonecchia sits at 1,312 m above sea level. Its proud motto "Seigneur de soi-même" ("Lord of oneself") may be explained by its isolated location. The oldest mention of Bardonecchia dates back to 1001. The opening of the Fréjus tunnel in 1871 transformed the town into one of Italy's first ski resorts, with the Melezet, Jafferau and Colomion-Campo Smith slopes. For the 2006 Olympic Games, an Olympic village and snowboard slope were built. In the upper town, admire the typical alpine houses, the charming sundials, the Saint-Hippolyte church and the Tour d'Amun. You can enjoy a traditional aperitif in Rue Medail.
