Valloire is a high altitude village perched at 1,405 meters, close to the mythical Galibier pass. Skiing was practiced here even before 1940. For 25 years, the international competition of ice and snow sculptures has been held here. Among the many other events, we note the National Short Film Festival, or the regular passage of the Tour de France. It also collects labels: "Station village de charmes", "Grand domaine", "Montagne douce" and "Étape de montagne" or "Station verte". The ski area of Valloire is linked to that of Valmeinier, to form the ski area Galibier-Thabor.
