Bordered on the east by the Garon river and on the west by the Monts du Lyonnais, Messimy culminates at the Plat Saint-Romain at 600m altitude. On the road to Châteauvieux, the place called Haute Bruyère offers a magnificent view of Lyon and the Alps. The old parts of the village are home to the Vingtain wall, built to defend the inhabitants during the Hundred Years War. The church is located in the Vingtain. The Romanesque part, from the 12th century, is the original church, while the new one was built at the end of the 19th century. It is remarkable for its statue of Saint Roch, its stone barrel vault, the baptismal font and the arcatures.
