(La-en-Gier) A very ancient village, (traces of a th century church that was found there), perched on the edge of the mountain, dominating three dams used for drinking water in the Saint Chamond city. The Valla in Gier included until 1831 the nearby commune of the Bessat. In 1825, Blessed Marcellin Champagnat (born in 1789, passed away in 1840), named vicar of the village, founded the first community of the Marist brothers where some schools were born. A congregation today in 70 countries. The mother house is open to the public.THE WELL OF SISTERS. Very close to the town hall, a beautiful, carved stone well classified historic monument.FESTIVAL FESTIVAL: every year on the last Sunday in August. Dozens of goat cheese producers come to meet buyers.THE JUMP OF THE. The commune is entaillée by two main valleys marked by the relief. It is in this very hilly landscape that the Saut Jump is required to the visitor: an impressive waterfall from which the river reaches the same name. It is accessible after climbing through chirats (very characteristic pierres). One can stop there, among other things during a nice 17,5 km (4 h 45) marked tour from the car park of La Scie du Bost. Follow the D 2 direction "Saut Saut", below La Valla-en-Gier.
