On the sunny side of the Pilat, this charming medieval village, capital of the canton of the 14 communes of the Pilat Rhodanien, deserves a stop there in all seasons. And not only on November 11th, the date of the Apple Festival, which is a huge success every year. A village in three successive and singular floors that stretches along the road towards the heights, sheltering several districts that must all be visited, before setting off towards the green (or snowy) heights of Pilat. With the breeding of goats, the economy here is mainly dominated by arboriculture: in addition to the fruit of Eve, cherries and peaches, pears, apricots and raspberries. The hamlets consist of granite farmsteads made of irregular, coarsely cut blocks. The village, with its 3,500 inhabitants, is built on a ridge at an altitude of some 500 m. It has two churches and a feudal castle in the Virieu district.
