Burzet, an ancient medieval town and county seat, is located in the heart of the Bourges valley, in the middle of a volcanic mountain cirque. Its church (1456) is a masterpiece of Romanesque art, distinguished by its combed bell tower. Another masterpiece is the 13th century Calvary with its twelve chapels built into the mountainside, unique in its kind. Here, every Good Friday, some sixty figures perform a Passion of Christ. In a completely different register, Burzet sees the Monte Carlo rally pass by. The town is also known for its climbing site, the site of the Clock, with about twenty routes
