On the border between the two Ardèches, Vals-les-Bains enjoys a solid reputation among spa enthusiasts. To the north lies the Antraigues valley, and just above it, the high plateaux; to the south, the southern Ardèche, with its pine forests and gentle way of life. In Vals, the Ardèche and Volane rivers are the perfect place to heal aches and pains. The town boasts 145 mineral springs, not to mention the natural jet that gushes from its intermittent spring, a geyser that is active during the day and rises to a height of over 15 metres. Vals was also once an industrial town, with its mills and water bottling plant.
