Culoz (3,200 inhabitants) is located on the right bank of the Rhône, the natural boundary between the Ain and Savoie. The town is dominated by the Grand Colombier (alt. 1,534 m) where the Fenestré viewpoint is located. When the weather is fine, you can see as far as the Aravis massif and Mont Blanc. Culoz is home to a working-class urban heritage dating from the 1930s, built by the PLM (a former railway company). Culoz is also home to the Chèvrerie, which was the second home of Henri Dunant (1828-1910), founder of the Red Cross. To see: the castle of Montvéran and, at the western exit of the village, the National Nature Reserve of the Lavours marsh.
