The first site of human occupation was located on the oppidum of Bonpas, a site overlooking the Chartreuse. The Carthusian monastery of Bonpas (12th century) is a listed historical monument. Until the Middle Ages, the crossing of the Durance being very difficult, the place took the name of "malus passus" (bad step). With the presence of the Carthusian monastery, the monks did what was necessary, for economic and practical daily reasons, to improve this crossing, which quickly took the name of "bonus passus" ( good step). Today, the Carthusian monastery produces wine. Remains of fortifications from the 14th century, the church of Saint-Symphorien in the Provencal Romanesque style are worth seeing
