Vaillant, this village built on the banks of the Var has had a turbulent history with this river, whose devastating floods have ravaged the houses on several occasions. The old church was washed away several times by the tumultuous waves. It was finally rebuilt further east of the original location, on a site less threatened. The development of Saint-Martin-du-Var owes much to its industrialization in the 19th century - ceramics, brickworks, lime and cement, chemicals - but especially to the arrival of the Nice-Digne railway line, now Train des Pignes, which had the merit of opening up the valley.
