Between the sea and green hills, Nice - the 5th largest city in France - has about 10 km of coastline, including 7.5 km of beach, enough to attract summer visitors! The county hills form a strong barrier against the cold of winter while the cool coastal air moderates the heat during the summer. But this attraction for Nice is not only due to the climate: it is also due to the dynamism of a city that is at the forefront of national activity. Nice-Côte d'Azur airport welcomes more than 10 million passengers per year: it is the first national airport after Paris! The port is the first French cruise ship to handle nearly 300,000 passengers. But Nice is also Old Nice and its Saleya course at the picturesque market which smells of Provence. It is also home to about ten museums, including the famous Matisse Museum and the fascinating Marc Chagall Museum. It is therefore not surprising that millions of foreign tourists attracted by the city's assets, detailed in the Nice tourist guide, come to stroll along the Promenade des Anglais in summer and even more and more during the rest of the year.

The must-see places in Nice

When to go to Nice?

The best time to go to Nice is in spring or autumn, during the low season. Hotel and restaurant prices are much lower than in summer at this time and the beaches are almost deserted. As for the climate, it is ideal, warm but not too hot, and you can often swim from spring to late November in autumn. Winter is the very low tourist season but the climate remains mild with the possibility of many hikes under the sun. The high tourist season is of course summer, July and August, the roads are crowded and the fares are easily tripled. It is then really necessary to book your stay early if you want to have a place and not leave all your savings there. Nice is indeed one of the most touristic cities in France and it is not only appreciated by the French but also by a very large number of foreign tourists. If you go to Nice in summer, it is the right time for outdoor festivals and you will easily find an exhaustive list of these festivals at the Tourist Office.
