Tripartite, Carros is a town with a rich history, which can also refer to the village, the new town or the plans. Explanation: this name would mean "rock", the village being built on a block of limestone overhanging the bed of the Var, which protected it from the Great Wars since Carros was invaded only once during its history by the neighboring Savoy. This agglomeration was born in Roman Antiquity and grew over the centuries until it became independent of the Roman city of Vintium (Vence), as can be seen from the numerous inscriptions from the2nd and3rd centuries that can be seen on some of the village's buildings. In the 12th century, a castle was built at the top of the rock, allowing the surveillance of the border and affirming its local power. The Lords of Blacas remained the masters of the place until the Revolution. The building, entirely restored, has been home to the International Center of Contemporary Art since 1998. In 1860, the town joined the new department of Alpes-Maritimes and experienced Italian immigration during the following decades. Modern times brought Carros real prosperity, first by the creation of market gardening and horticulture areas torn from the bed of the Var, then by the development of the southern part of the town into an industrial zone. From then on, the town of Carros was established around three centers: Carros village, the historical center built around a castle, Carros les Plans, the heart of crafts, agriculture and horticulture, and Carros ville, the urban center. The first one is of course the main attraction
