This hilltop village owes its name (perhaps) to a local lord who was said to have the strength of an "ox". During a fight, he was knocked down by an opponent and fell to the ground. That's how you name a city! The other version says that it was Pope Clement V of Avignon who named the village: Tumba, mound of earth in Greek and bove, the ox. Tombeboeuf is an ancient oppidum where a flintknapping workshop was found. To see: the Louis XIV fountain, the ruins of the castle, the church portal and its bell tower and... its famous remarkable oak tree which obtained in 2020 the prize of the jury of the contest of the most beautiful tree of France.
