This English bastide was built at the end of the 13th century on the site of a Benedictine priory. As you stroll through the streets, you will discover the King's Tower, the Benedictine cloister and the recently renovated remains of the 12th century. Sainte-Livrade is also a land of immigration. It is here that the State requisitioned a military site to make the Centre d'Accueil des Français d'Indochine (CAFI) following the Geneva agreements in 1954. The Centre still exists and associations are campaigning for the upgrading of the accommodation and especially to preserve the memory of all these expatriates who often lived in difficult conditions
