With nearly 700 inhabitants, the Sotiates, this ancient Gallic site bears witness to an ancient human occupation. This quiet town, which dominates the Gélise valley, is located on the Ténarèze, a communication route which, since prehistoric times, has linked the centre of France to the Pyrenees. In 1579, Henri de Navarre, the future king Henri IV, became lord of Sos. However, it was not until the 19th century that Sos became prosperous thanks to the cultivation of pine trees and the harvesting of their resin, the gemmage. From this period, some beautiful old half-timbered houses, large squares and, near the town hall, a small open-air lapidary museum remain.
