Limersheim is said to come from leammer, meaning "sheep"; Schaeffersheim from schaeffer, " shepherd", and it was said in Merovingian times that sheep were already eating on the cleared land of Limersheim and that the shepherds' huts were in Schaeffersheim. Limersheim's real name comes from a Roman soldier named Lithomar in the Roman legions. Lithomar was a very common name, and many remains of this era have been found in the area. Limersheim is a charming little Alsatian village located 18 km south of Strasbourg. Its famous Rue Circulaire with its magnificent half-timbered houses will not leave you indifferent.
