Situated in the Thèze valley, this fortified town was founded in the late 13th century by the seneschal of Périgord and Quercy. Montcabrier is organized around a covered square and 16th-century houses with turrets and Renaissance windows. The 13th-century church of Saint-Louis was built in the village in place of a Romanesque chapel in honor of the canonization of Louis IX. On the exterior of the building, you can admire a statue of the saint carved by a local artist from a century-old oak tree. The town also features the remains of ramparts, a fortified gate and a corner tower.
