Until the 18th century, the village had the name of Lamothe-Massaut, then changed its name to Lamothe-Fénelon in 1613. Lamothe-Fénelon is one of the fiefs that belonged to the archbishop of Cambrai. A small rural village, it is worth a visit for its Sainte-Sixte church, of Romanesque architecture, classified in 1913 as a historical monument, with a gabled bell tower and frescos. Originally, a non-conventual priory of the abbey of Souillac was established there, of which some stones of the surrounding wall remain. Today, the village is very popular with fishermen and bathers who enjoy the water
