Destroyed by the English in the 14th century, Gindou still boasts a 12th-century church that is a model of the architecture of the period. Nearby, another complicated historical episode for the village saw Simon de Montfort's crusaders destroy the fort of Maussac. The hamlet's church contains a lovely stoup - it is listed as a Monument Historique. But Gindou is best known for its film festival, one of the oldest in France, which traditionally takes place at the end of August with open-air screenings, some of them previews. This venue dedicated to cinema in the heart of the countryside is unique in Europe.
