The small village of Aujols is not lacking in charm, and its heritage assets are not to be underestimated, with its 19th-century church, its 13th-century ramparts and, of course, its lake surrounded by twenty "butterfly" wash-houses. Located in the center of the commune, this small lake is a sight to behold. The poetic setting makes it easy to imagine the daily life of the washerwomen of the time, kneeling in front of the laundries to scrub and beat the linen. In 1870, the lake was enlarged. During the summer months, the remains of the first buried washhouses can be seen at the bottom of the lake. Of course, washing clothes in the lake was gradually discontinued from the 1950s onwards.
