In the heart of the Grands Causses, Saint-Jean-d'Alcas lies in the lower part of the Causse du Larzac valley. It boasts a 15th-century fortified castle, built by the Cistercian abbey of Nonenque for protection during the Hundred Years' War. As for the village of Saint-Paul-des-Fonts, its proximity to the Versolet river has enabled it to obtain its drinking water supply. Today, this natural wealth can be admired in the Hippolyte Coste botanical garden. This priest-botanist conducted his research here and wrote his Flore de France. The town abounds in little treasures, which you can discover by strolling through its narrow streets.
