Until the 19th century, Bertholène gathered a few houses around the ruins of the castle from which one has a beautiful view from the N88. The arrival of the railroad and the promotion to the rank of parish allowed it to develop. In addition to the old streets, the old houses and the medieval castle of Bertholène, one must go and admire the castle of Bourines, 6 km to the north-east.
