Vialas had its heyday in the last century. At that time, a quarter of France's silver production was extracted from its silver-lead mines. Around 1895, the fame of the Protestant healer Vignes led to a veritable pilgrimage. Hundreds of Swiss travelled by train to consult him. Today, if people still travel from afar, it's more for the gastronomic experience. The temple, built in 1612, is one of the 2 oldest Protestant buildings in the region, along with the one in Collet-de-Dèze. From Vialas, a path leads up a steep slope of Mont Lozère to the abandoned hamlet of Gourdouze.
