Like all the surrounding communes and hills, Peyrolles is a picturesque village strongly marked by the Camisards war which followed the revocation of the Edict of Nantes by Louis XIV in 1685. While it peaked at nearly 200 inhabitants at the beginning of the 19th century, the population today has only about forty souls.
