The village is close to the Col des Trois-Sœurs, where the Truyère river rises. The Fenestre rock, at 1,486 meters, is a veritable observatory from which to dominate the entire region. The pass takes its name from a legend. Three sisters from La Panouse each worked as maids in the local barracks. In love with the same shepherd, whom they watched pass by in spring and autumn on the Margeride track, they set off for the pass one cold, snowy day, hoping to find him there and save him from the peril that awaited him. They were found the next day, knotted by their arms and legs, joined in death.
