Cut between the Tarn and Jonte gorges, the Méjean is a vast expanse at an average altitude of around 1,000 m, a paradise for flocks of sheep. The human presence is concentrated in small hamlets nestling on the edge of a few cultivable depressions. It's hard to imagine that Hures-la-Parade is the administrative center of one of the largest communes in the area. Driving through it, you'd think you were in another world, where rural traditions are still very much alive. Beneath its surface lie real underground treasures, most of them well known but unexploited or internationally famous, such as Aven Armand.
