Between Nîmes and Avignon, 2 km from Remoulins, Saint-Bonnet-du-Gard is well worth a stop. This small village on the RN86 road to the Pont du Gard benefits from the underground springs that feed the Gardon river. On one side of the road, picturesque Gard houses wind their way up the hill to the 12th-century Templar church. On the other, a local rarity, a magnificent washing fountain, commissioned by Napoleon I in the early 19th century. Nearby, the starting point of the GR6 trail that leads to the famous aqueduct, there's a multi-service grocery store and a good pizzeria.
