Congénies is a commune located in the Vaunage (an eroded valley), 20 kilometers from Nîmes. The fertile plain is mainly planted with vines and cereals. In addition to the village's sizeable Catholic and Protestant communities, there is also a group of Quakers who meet in the meeting house adjoining their cemetery of unmarked graves. Places of interest include the Peyra Plantada menhir and the Fontaine de la Bourse (Bollard Fountain), a lively meeting place for debating the price of wine. 110 capitelles are spread across the region. There's also a botanical interpretation trail.
