In the Middle Ages, Vélizy and Villacoublay were owned by the Hôtel-Dieu de Notre-Dame de Paris. In the 19th century, Vélizy was the scene of battles against the invading Prussians, earning it the nickname "Little Moscow". But the town is best known for its aeronautical epic: in 1913, Breguet planted its hangars here and Morane-Saulnier set up its private airfield. Today, the town has become more industrialized. As part of the Paris-Saclay science and technology cluster, it is home to a large number of companies. It also boasts 65 hectares of green spaces and part of the Meudon forest estate.
