Gazeran lies at the entrance to the agricultural Beauce region, within the Rambouillet forest massif. Originally inhabited by the Franks under the name of Waswing, the commune boasted a fortified castle that was part of the defensive system of the Montfort lords in the 11th century. Today, all that remains of Château Saint-Antoine is the curtain wall and a square gate tower. The Simon family, who owned the town until 1706, sold the château to the Count of Toulouse, son of Louis XIV, in 1708. The nave and apse of Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois church were built in the 11th century, while the bell tower dates from the late 12th century.
