Nesles-la-Vallée is one of those villages that attracted artists from the 19th century on. Paul Cézanne passed through here (he painted a mill that bears his name today), then Robert and Sonia Delaunay, regulars at the Auberge du Faisan Doré, where many of their friends came to join them in the 1920s. With Marc Chagall, Albert Gleizes, Hans Arp or Le Corbusier, they thought about creating an ideal museum here. The project did not come to fruition, but don't let that stop you from taking a walk in this town of 1,860 inhabitants, which has a beautiful old heritage, starting with the church of Saint-Symphorien (12th century).
